Please read the following important notes carefully before completing this form.
By completing this form, you consent to SASOHN obtaining, using, and storing your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
This form is intended for new SASOHN members only.
Full Membership is reserved for Registered Professional Nurses and Qualified Occupational Health Nurses actively participating in any field of Occupational Health (in the Republic of South Africa), who are current paid-up members of SANC.
Affiliate Membership is applicable to any health professional who is not a Registered Professional Nurse, in any other field related to Occupational Health, or Occupational Health Nursing Practitioners registered and working in other countries, or Enrolled Nurses practising Occupational Health in South Africa. These applicants must register as Affiliate Members.
The Affiliate Membership category is currently under review. At this stage, membership certificates will only be issued to Full Members. All applications for Affiliate Membership are subject to approval by the SASOHN Office Bearers. Please attach a written motivation explaining why you are applying for Affiliate Membership.
Please note: Affiliate, International, and Retired Members do not qualify for Indemnity cover. This also applies to members who are not employed in Occupational Health.
Reduced Indemnity rates are available exclusively to active Full Members and Honorary Life Members (HLM).
Audiometrists/AUDIO Members: A separate membership application form (Form J1) exists specifically for Audiometrists and Audio Members. Please do not use this form (Form I1) if you are applying as an Audiometrist or Audio Member. Apply as an Audio Member here.
Incomplete or incorrectly completed forms will result in your SASOHN membership application not being processed, as well as not receiving all certified supporting documents.
Application Process
Once you have successfully submitted your application to [email protected], the Registration Board will assess your application and verify your qualifications and experience. This process takes approximately 5–7 working days.
You will then receive an invoice for the level of membership that you qualified for. Banking details will be provided on the invoice received.
Once you have paid your application/membership fee and sent proof of payment to [email protected] with the correct reference number, your membership certificate will be available on your profile to download or print, and will be sent to the registered email address on your profile.
Membership renewals are payable on 31 January every year. Renewal invoices will be sent out during September.
Your membership certificate will be reissued annually for as long as your annual membership fee is paid on or before 31 January each year.
SASOHN annual membership period: 1 January to 31 December.
Applications will be processed once the following are received:
- Signed application form
- Certified copies (not older than 3 months) of the following:
- Identity Document / Passport
- Occupational Health Qualification (Certificate / Diploma)
- Practising Certificate for the current year

Professional indemnity insurance
Access to discounted indemnity coverage. By being a SASOHN member, the annual indemnity fee can drop by up to 80%.
Bursaries
Bursary of up to R10 000 annually towards postgraduate studies in Occupational Health.
Sponsorship
Sponsorship and discounted rates to national and international events related to Occupational Health for continued professional development (e.g. the annual SASOHN Academic Days and/or the SASOHN National Conference).
Discounts
Discounted price on the book “A Practical Approach to Occupational Health Nursing” (Editor K Michell).
Discounted event rates
Members benefit from reduced rates for attendance at SASOHN-initiated events, such as conferences and workshops.
Guidelines
Paid-up members have free access to the online SASOHN Occupational Health Guidelines.

Nomination to prestigious SASOHN national awards, such as Honorary Life Member, Member of Merit, President Award, Member of the Year, OHNP of the Year, Mentor of the Year, Student of the Year, and more.
Involvement

Indemnity policy for paid-up members
Important updates regarding indemnity and membership renewal for SASOHN members.
We would like to remind you about the discounted medical malpractice insurance available to SASOHN members through Garrun-CFP Brokers. Please take note of the following important updates:
Legislative changes (2019)
Members are required to pay the indemnity amount directly to CFP Brokers.
Membership fees and indemnity cost
The SASOHN membership category fees do not include the indemnity cost.
Membership fee deadline
According to the updated SASOHN Constitutional Rules, membership fees must be settled with SASOHN by the end of January each year. Only members with up-to-date memberships will qualify for the discounted indemnity cover when renewing at the end of February.
Indemnity cover choice
Members are free to choose their preferred provider for malpractice insurance.

2026 Honorary Life membership
R340
Awarded, as per the set criteria in the SASOHN Rules of Procedure, to a member who has served with distinction in any field of Occupational Health Nursing. The right to award Honorary Life Membership resides with the SASOHN Executive Committee whose decision shall be final.
Retired membership
Please note (Locum OHPs): Locum OHPs who are still actively employed must retain full membership with SASOHN to ensure full compliance with Medical Malpractice insurance requirements. Age is not the determining factor for locum status — it is the active engagement in Occupational Health practice.
2026 Retired membership (age 65+)
R420 (50% reduction)
Retired Members are those who have reached the retirement age by 1 September of the specific calendar year. These members are no longer gainfully employed in the field of Occupational Health but wish to retain their membership with the South African Society of Occupational Health Nursing Practitioners (SASOHN). This provision allows retired professionals to stay connected with SASOHN, continuing to benefit from the organisation’s resources and community.
2026 Retired membership (age 60–64)
R630 (25% reduction)
Retired Members are those who have reached the retirement age by 1 September of the specific calendar year. These members are no longer gainfully employed in the field of Occupational Health but wish to retain their membership with the South African Society of Occupational Health Nursing Practitioners (SASOHN). This provision allows retired professionals to stay connected with SASOHN, continuing to benefit from the organisation’s resources and community. .
